Built With Care
Share
As we scale, I’ve been thinking about what makes a business feel steady. Not just busy, or loud, or full... but steady. Rooted. Trusted. Real.
It’s easy to get caught in the pace of things. Especially in a world filtered through social media, where everything moves fast. The trending audios, the shiny new product, the thrill of the hunt. It’s tempting to believe that you must "keep up".
There’s just so much noise. So much pressure.
But not everyone wants to build that way. And they shouldn’t have to.
Because there’s something powerful about doing things with care. About making choices on purpose.
Whether you’re curating a shop, decorating your home, starting a side business, or simply choosing what to let into your life, there’s real strength in not reaching for what’s just fast and shiny. There’s value in the pause. In the quiet “not yet.” In the decision to wait until it feels right.
And if you know me, you know I’m usually the one who is moving fast. I’m always on. Maetiques is the only thing I think about constantly. I’ve never been afraid to jump in headfirst, literally ever. Case in point: YOLO buying an entire container from France before I even fully understood how to receive one. I live for the big ideas, the new projects, the “what if we just tried it this way?” moments. It's literally my life.
But even with all that energy, the heart of this business... the reason it works, is care. I’ve learned that doing something boldly and doing something thoughtfully aren’t opposites. In fact, when you build with intention, you can grow… because you know your footing is solid.
And the more I sit with it, the more I come back to the parts that matter most to me... and they’ve always been the quiet ones.
The hours spent researching a piece before it’s listed.
The decision to price something fairly, even when you could go higher.
The sourcing trips where half the magic lives in one-on-one conversations with your favorite vendors—not just in the objects.
The email sent not because you have to, but because it feels right to keep someone in the loop.
The instinct to hold a piece back because it’s just not ready.
The excitement of a new idea (maybe even a whole new arm of the business) balanced by the decision to wait, to refine, to make sure it aligns with the brand we're building before bringing it to life.
These aren’t things that show up on social media. They’re not flashy. They don’t go viral. Most people won’t talk about them, but I believe people feel them.
I’ve always believed the care behind something is what gives it its weight. And whether you’re selling antiques, styling a space, or just trying to move through the world with a little more intention... it matters. The way you do something becomes part of what it is.
That’s not to say that growth is wrong. Or that speed is bad. It’s not. Hell, I move at the speed of light some days. But I do think there’s a difference between growing fast and growing well. Between selling something and standing behind it.
There’s value in being thoughtful. In being the one who’s not rushing but still rising. Quietly. Carefully. With both feet on the ground.
That might not be everyone’s path. But it’s the one I trust.
And if you’re still reading this, maybe you trust it too.
You don’t need to build fast to build something that lasts.
You don’t need to shout to be heard by the right people.
You just have to stay rooted in what you know matters.
It’s not always the easiest path.
But it’s a good one. A steady one.
One that holds up, even when the trend cycle doesn’t.
If you’re growing, creating, building - or just simply living in a way that feels slower, quieter, or more intentional…
You’re not behind.
You’re not missing anything.
You’re doing something worth doing.
Keep going.
