It Was Never About France

It Was Never About France

It was about making home, home.

I know this post might feel a little out of left field, and admittedly, a touch off brand… but my heart has been heavy on this topic after talking to a few friends, and I needed to put a few words on paper.

Home isn’t about France. Or even about French antiques.

(Yes, I do know I own a business based on selling French antiques but hear me out).

You don’t need to go to France to feel at home.
You don’t need to buy French antiques for your space to feel meaningful.

Let your home be a reflection of YOUR heart.

France can be beautiful layers within a home – but they are not the feeling itself.

Home is the hugs from your partner after a long day.
The kisses from your pups.
The mismatched utensils you’ve somehow had since college.
The quilt you keep trying to wash clean.
The lamp that needs a new shade but never quite makes it onto the to-do list.

Home is the roof you sleep under – dirty dishes, cluttered garage and all.

Yes, our brand was built from a love for all things French.
But our home didn’t begin with French antiques, and it was never meant to.

It started with a Hobby Lobby Paris print in my college apartment. It then turned into travel photos. Then books. Then antiques.

That doesn’t mean French antiques are the end-all, be-all. They’re simply part of our story.

Home means different things to different people, as it should.

If French antiques speak to you, embrace them.
If your home is zebra-print rugs, Mario Brothers posters, and neon signs, embrace that too.

Lately, though, I’ve felt a quiet pressure circulating… the idea that to create a home (or a business) worthy of being seen, it has to look a certain way. Carry the right label. Come from the right place. Follow the newest trend.

And listen, I’ll be the first to admit that we may have inspired some of that. But the truth is, it was never about what was trending. It was about love. About what made sense to us. About sharing something that felt real. About connection.

When we first went to France, it wasn’t a strategy, or optics…It was a calling. Something that tugged at us so deeply, we couldn’t ignore it. France is part of who we are. It’s part of our story.

But beauty doesn’t only live there.
Belonging doesn’t only live there.

I’ve watched so many collectors, decorators, and creators quietly question their worth... wondering if their homes or their work measures up because they didn’t come from the “right” place. And that breaks my heart.

If I were just starting out and felt that kind of pressure, I know myself well enough to say this: I wouldn’t be here today. Home was never meant to feel intimidating. It was never meant to feel earned. Home isn’t supposed to carry pressure.

If this post does one thing, I hope it’s this: Please don’t lose sight of what matters.

Home is not a trend, or a destination.
Home is accessible... it’s right where you already are.

We’re in the business of comfort. Warmth. Belonging. Individuality

Of reminding people that the most beautiful homes aren’t the ones chasing every trend, they’re the ones that tell a story. Your story.

Because a home isn’t French.
Or Italian.
Or curated for approval.

A home is you.

You don’t need to chase it.
You don’t need to earn it.
You just need to feel it.

Because it was never about where we went.
It was always about why we went.

xx,

Mae
