A standout piece of French agricultural and equestrian history, this 1926 prize plaque was awarded by the Ministère de l’Agriculture for the Concours Central Hippique de Paris, one of France’s important national horse competitions.

What makes this piece especially compelling is its highly specific judging category. Rather than being a general agricultural sign or farm marker, this plaque was awarded for Demi-Sang Breton, Vendéen, and Charentais mares, four years and older, type cob, receiving 3rd Prize. This places the piece directly within the world of French horse breeding, regional working-horse types, and formal national livestock judging in the interwar period.

The text translates to: “Ministry of Agriculture, Central Horse Competition of Paris, Half-Blood Breton, Vendéen and Charentais, Mares, 4 years and above, Cob type, 3rd Prize.”

The plaque has a beautiful decorative presence, with a soft green ground, raised gilt and white lettering, scrolling border details, and a shell motif at the base. It is both visually charming and historically specific — a rare piece that connects French agricultural tradition with equestrian competition and breeding standards.

A wonderful addition for an equestrian home, tack room, study, mudroom, gallery wall, or collection of French agricultural pieces. Unlike a typical farm sign, this one tells a very particular story of place, purpose, judging, and prize-winning French horse history.

Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Surface shows rubbing, paint loss, patina, small marks, and finish variation throughout. Hanging wire present at top. Dated 1926 and marked for the Ministère de l’Agriculture / Concours Central Hippique de Paris. Sold as found.
