A wonderfully decorative French agricultural prize plaque from the Concours Général Agricole de Paris, dated 1927. Issued under the Ministry of Agriculture, this piece was awarded for the Concours Laitier et Beurrier, or Dairy and Butter Competition, recognizing the Race Flamande, a historic Flemish dairy cattle breed known for milk and butter production.
The plaque reads “Race Flamande, 1re Section, 3e Prix”, meaning it was awarded as a third prize in the first section of the competition. The raised lettering, wheat motifs, green ground, and warm ochre border give it that classic early 20th-century French agricultural fair aesthetic.
While agricultural prize plaques are found in France, this one stands out for its specific 1927 date, Paris competition connection, dairy and butter judging category, and named cattle breed. It is not just a generic farm sign, but a piece tied directly to France’s agricultural exhibition culture and the judging of working livestock.
