A wonderful 1934 French agricultural prize plaque from the Concours Général Agricole de Paris, awarded under the Ministère de l’Agriculture for the bovine/cattle category. The plaque reads “Espèce Bovine — Prix Supplémentaire,” translating to “Bovine Species — Supplementary Prize.”
The piece has a beautiful green painted ground with raised gilt lettering, wheat motifs, and a shield-like form with small hanging loops at the top. These French agricultural plaques were awarded at official livestock and agricultural competitions and have become wonderful decorative pieces for kitchens, pantries, garden rooms, farmhouses, or collected French walls.
This one has especially charming color and surface — the green and gold combination gives it a strong decorative presence while still feeling authentically utilitarian and historic. It’s a lovely piece of French agricultural history, tied to livestock judging, farming culture, and the national agricultural competitions of early 20th-century France.
Condition: Good antique/vintage condition with age-related wear, rubbing, paint loss, patina, small marks, and surface oxidation. Hanging loops are present. Wear is consistent with age and use.
