A wonderful 1935 French agricultural prize plaque awarded by the Ministère de l’Agriculture for the Concours Général Agricole de Paris. The plaque was awarded in the bovine category for Race Flamande cows, receiving 4th Prize in the 3rd section.
The text translates to: “1935, Ministry of Agriculture, General Agricultural Competition of Paris, Bovine Species, Flemish Breed, Cows, 3rd Section, 4th Prize.”
While more broadly recognizable than the horse-breeding plaque, this is still a special piece of French agricultural history. It is not a generic farm sign, but an actual livestock judging award connected to France’s national agricultural competition. The category identifies the species, breed, judging division, and prize placement, giving the piece a clear sense of purpose and provenance.
The plaque has a deep green ground with raised gilt lettering, wheat motifs, and a scalloped shield-like form. It would be especially charming in a kitchen, mudroom, study, garden room, equestrian space, or layered into a French country collection.
Condition:
Good vintage/antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Surface shows rubbing, patina, paint variation, small marks, and areas of finish loss. Hanging chain present at top. Dated 1935 and marked Ministère de l’Agriculture / Concours Général Agricole de Paris. Sold as found.
