A French Limoges porcelain advertising ashtray created for Au Comte de Gascogne, a mid-century restaurant whose name evokes the culinary traditions of southwest France. Rendered in a soft ivory glaze with green script lettering, the front carries the restaurant name while the reverse is marked GDA Limoges France and printed with original reservation telephone numbers—a detail that firmly places this piece within the era of formal dining and telephone bookings.
Objects like this were designed to live at the table, remaining in view throughout a meal and serving as quiet, constant advertising. The inclusion of reservation information speaks to a time when dining out was intentional, social, and planned in advance.
