A beautifully atmospheric antique oil painting depicting a formal garden scene with a reflecting pool, balustrade, architectural ruins, and soft layered greenery. The composition has a romantic, almost Mediterranean quality, with warm filtered light, muted greens, ochres, and shadowy blues creating a dreamy old-world feeling.
The painting is presented in a substantial carved gilt frame with a decorative repeating border. The reverse retains an old Mercier Frères label from 100 Faubourg Saint-Antoine, Paris, a notable Parisian decorating and furnishing house. The handwritten inventory note appears to read “3561”, followed by a partially legible word that may reference a title or location. While we cannot confirm the artist or exact subject, the label adds a wonderful Paris decorator provenance detail and suggests the piece once passed through a refined interiors or decorative arts context.
This is the kind of antique artwork that brings mood immediately — soft, layered, romantic, and a little mysterious. It would be beautiful in a study, powder room, bedroom, hallway, or layered into a collected gallery wall.

Condition: Good antique condition.
Antique oil painting with visible age-related wear, craquelure, surface grime/darkening, small marks, and areas of uneven finish. Some discoloration and surface variation are visible throughout, consistent with age. Frame shows age-related wear, rubbing, losses to gilt, exposed wood, nicks, scratches, and patina. Reverse has old backing board, nails, wear, surface abrasions, and an old Mercier Frères label. Piece has not been removed from the frame. Artist, exact location, and date are unknown. Sold as found and as-is.
