A rare antique devotional medal in sterling silver with its original gold-plated finish, honoring Sainte Florence. The obverse shows a profile portrait of the saint with braided hair, encircled by the inscription “Ste Florence”. Above her head rests a scallop shell, a symbol of pilgrimage and baptism, and she is framed with delicate relief work. The reverse is left plain, allowing the warm glow of the gilding to shine through.
She was particularly invoked by women and children, and in some traditions, associated with healing and protection.
Because Sainte Florence is not a “mainstream” saint, medals of her are far rarer than those of St. Christopher, St. Thérèse, or the Miraculous Medal. That adds uniqueness and a scholarly edge it’s the kind of piece that signals deeply French, local devotionals rather than mass-produced universal icons.
