A luminous sepia wash landscape attributed to Armand Point, the French Symbolist painter and founder of the Hauteclaire artists’ commune near Fontainebleau. The composition captures a single tree in the foreground, its foliage delicately modeled in warm tonal washes against a softly rolling landscape.

The piece bears the “Collection Atelier Armand Point” oval stamp at the lower left — denoting works retained within the artist’s studio estate after his death. Drawings of this nature were exercises in observation and devotion, reflecting Point’s belief that art was a spiritual craft rooted in nature’s perfection.

Framed in its period giltwood frame with gentle patina and light surface wear, consistent with age.

Armand Point (1860–1932) wasn’t a minor academic artist — he was a major Symbolist figure who helped bridge 19th-century romanticism with the early 20th-century Arts & Crafts and Symbolist movements in France.

He founded “Hauteclaire,” an artist colony near Fontainebleau inspired by William Morris’s ideals — where painting, sculpture, enamel, and design were treated as sacred crafts. Collectors and museums prize anything from Point’s circle because so little survives, and much remains in institutional collections.

The oval “Atelier Armand Point” stamp (seen in your photo) is important — it signifies a piece authentically linked to the artist’s studio, not a later attribution.
This was typically applied to unsold or estate-held works directly from his workshop, giving it traceable provenance. Such stamped works are documented in catalogues raisonnés and are collected by museums like the Musée d’Orsay and Petit Palais.
