This striking French dining table is anchored by a beautifully sculpted central pedestal base, richly carved with scrolling acanthus, floral motifs, and finished with original casters at each foot. The base alone is a work of art—substantial, architectural, and full of depth—giving the table an undeniable presence even before it’s fully extended.
The top features six wide plank panels that expand seamlessly to accommodate additional leaves, allowing the table to transition effortlessly from everyday use to generous entertaining. When extended, additional support legs are engaged beneath the table, ensuring both stability and longevity—an intentional, well-engineered detail you rarely see done this well.
The table has been bleached, revealing the natural grain and movement of the wood while softening the overall tone. While the exact wood species is unknown, the grain, weight, and construction are consistent with a hardwood commonly used in European tables, lending both durability and character. Over time, natural seams, hairline splits, and variations have developed throughout the wood—details we consider part of her story, not flaws.
