A beautiful antique French decorative bowl combining thick, clear glass with an elaborate cast bronze floral surround. The rounded glass vessel sits within an openwork bronze mount composed of deeply modeled flowers, leaves, and scrolling stems that wrap continuously around the exterior.
The floral decoration appears to be inspired by chrysanthemums, with layered, curling petals and broad leaves rendered in high relief. The bronze has developed a wonderfully warm aged surface with darker recesses and touches of verdigris throughout, emphasizing the depth of the casting.
Viewed from above, the piece is especially striking: the transparent glass allows the bronze framework to remain visible beneath and around the bowl, creating a beautiful layered effect between the clear vessel and the sculptural metalwork.
Likely intended as a decorative centerpiece, bonbon dish, table bowl, or small jardinière, it would be beautiful used today for collected objects, wrapped candies, florals, or simply left empty as a decorative object.
The glass shows light surface wear consistent with age, while the bronze retains oxidation, patina, and areas of verdigris that we have left untouched.
