French Impasto Floral Still Life by A. Perrier

A wonderfully textural French floral still life depicting a loose arrangement of poppies, wheat, daisies, hydrangea-like blossoms, and trailing greenery gathered inside a warm ochre vase. Painted against a deep brown ground, the saturated red, yellow, blue, and violet flowers emerge beautifully from the darker background.
The artist used generous, sculptural applications of paint throughout, giving the bouquet and vase a richly layered, almost relief-like surface. Signed A. Perrier in the lower left and inscribed on the reverse with the date June 1935, along with additional handwritten notes and an old French board label.
Painted on board and presented without a frame. The piece shows considerable age-related character, including surface craquelure, edge wear, small losses, unevenness, and areas of lifting or flaking paint, all visible in the photographs. This is an expressive, imperfect little painting with wonderful depth and personality.
