A wonderfully saturated vintage opaline vessel in a rich garden green, finished with a delicate gilt-metal rim edged in tiny beaded detailing. Its simple cylindrical form allows the color to take center stage—glowing lighter near the opening before deepening into an almost emerald green toward the base.
This type of glass is sometimes described as opaline “pâte de riz,” or “rice-paste” opaline. The name refers to the softly diffused, opalescent quality historically associated with the glass rather than to a literal rice material. Traditional French opaline became especially fashionable during the 19th century and was used for decorative and household objects including vases, boxes, bowls, lamps and perfume vessels.
This example appears to be a later vintage interpretation, likely dating to the mid-to-late 20th century rather than the earlier Napoleon III period. Its clean shape and bright color make it especially versatile—as a small cachepot, desk cup, makeup-brush holder or simply as a vivid layer of green among collected objects.
