This suite is sold as a complete three-piece set.
A stunning Louis XVI-style Duchesse Brisée, composed of two carved bergères and a fitted ottoman that nestles perfectly between them to form a graceful chaise configuration. The name, translating to “broken duchess,” refers to this elegant modular design — one that allows each piece to stand alone or join together as a singular daybed-style seat.
Crafted in France circa 1890–1910, this suite showcases the timeless symmetry and balance of the Louis XVI period. The hand-carved walnut frames feature fluted legs, floral rosettes, and a delicate ribbon border. The original velvet upholstery, a warm amber and gold stripe, remains in remarkable condition — soft to the touch and rich with depth from age.
Perfect for a bedroom corner, sitting room, or salon vignette, this Duchesse Brisée embodies quiet luxury and the enduring romance of French craftsmanship.

Notable detail: The silk on the back panels of both chairs shows vertical tears (as shown in photos). The chairs remain fully stable and usable; buyers may choose to either repair the silk, replace it with new backing, or leave it open to reveal the authentic burlap layer beneath — a common and beautiful display choice among collectors.
Excellent structural integrity. Upholstery is well-preserved with minor, expected fading and gentle wear. Wood frames show light surface wear consistent with age, but no cracks or repairs.
Light wear and tonal variation to the velvet are authentic signs of age and not considered flaws.
