A beautiful vintage French decorative bowl crafted from richly veined honey-toned onyx and mounted with warm brass accents.
The shallow rounded bowl displays the natural variation that makes onyx so beautiful, with translucent shades of cream, caramel, amber, and soft rust running throughout the stone. A simple brass band follows the upper rim, giving the piece a clean finished edge while emphasizing the warmth of the stone.
The bowl is elevated on three sculptural brass feet, each formed with decorative scrolling and foliate detailing. The raised base gives the piece an almost jewel-like quality and creates a lovely contrast between the organic veining of the onyx and the more ornate metalwork.
Likely dating to the mid-20th century, when onyx and brass decorative objects became especially popular throughout France and continental Europe.
The stone shows natural inclusions, color variation and veining inherent to onyx, along with expected minor surface wear from age. The brass retains an aged patina and areas of darkening consistent with vintage use.
Perfect as a small catchall for jewelry, keys or collected objects, or simply displayed on a coffee table, nightstand, vanity or bookshelf. The warm stone and brass combination makes this one of those small pieces that layers beautifully into a room without feeling overly decorative.
